Entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. Earlier that
used to be the only motto of Bollywood film makers when it came to Indian
cinema. All the movies were rather predictable with a hero, heroin villain and
some beautiful melodies in gorgeous sceneries. Now the trend is changing.
People are more inclined towards the meaningful cinema. From high budgeted
superstars staring movies like PK, Barfi, Bhag Milkha Bhag, Highway to low
budgeted movies like Maqbool, Amir, Kahani etc the trend is changing. People
want to see more meaningful cinema rather than the regular masala movie.
Honestly I enjoy both the types. There is nothing more entertaining than
watching Salman Khan kicking ten or twenty people all alone without even a
single scratch and then dancing his worries off to impress his lady. But
knowing the kind of influence Bollywood movies have on Indians and even
Pakistanis, Bollywood has a social responsibility also. They should start
making movies with a social lesson also. They shouldn’t just make movies like
Don, Dhoom etc where the bad guys get away with everything and they are shown
heroic. I know in reality not everything is perfect and bad people do get away
with evil stuff. But when these things are shown in movies, people specially
youngsters get influenced and try to copy them. Movies like Once upon a time in
Mumbai, dishkiyaon, ek villain, in these movies they should the gang wars and
enhance the role of villain and showed them as heroes. And then comes movies
like Raam Leela where they not only enlightens the old tradition but also
promote the culture and rituals of their society. It is time to diversify the
movies into different generics. Those times are over when people only want to
see romance or action. Now you see there is a bit of comedy factor in every
generic of movie. This shows the interest of people more towards comedy and
happiness.
